16th Century Cottage: Ground Floor Re-Design & Refurbishment

Location: South East

For this project a complete re-model was required, the existing layout was not conducive to modern family living, the rooms were too small, the dining area was at the opposite end of the house to the kitchen and the decor was dated.

It was essential to the client that the project was completed within the agreed time frame.

The key practical considerations included ensuring that as much light entered the property as possible, each room was given a focal point or feature and much emphasis was placed on the kitchen as this would be the 'heart of the home'. The clients kitchen requirements included a practical dining area, plenty of cupboard space and lots of worktop space, time was spent recording and analysing the exact way the clients would use the space before the final layout was signed off. The finished result is a smart contemporary family home.

Design Highlights

  • The dark interior needed to be lightened
  • Rooms needed to be configured for use by a young and growing family
  • Ample storage space was required
  • The introduction of visual focal points were essential as the cottage had few existing features.
